Fees

Costs of Weight Loss Surgery:

The total cost of surgery includes the following components:

  • Private Hospital Fees:
    • Operating Theatre Fees
    • Daily Hospital Stay Fees (ward, intensive care, or high dependency unit)
    • Surgical Devices (staplers, clips, energy devices such as the Harmonic Scalpel)
  • Professional Fees:
    • Surgeon’s Fees
    • Assistant Surgeon’s Fees
    • Anaesthetist’s Fees

Private health insurance typically covers the Private Hospital Fees. Self-funding patients are responsible for these costs. Professional Fees are consistent for both privately insured and self-funding patients.

Private Health Insurance:

Your private health insurance should cover the Private Hospital Fees listed above. Please confirm that your policy specifically includes “Bariatric surgery in a Private Hospital” and covers item numbers 31572, 31575, 31584, and 31581. If you are considering new insurance, be aware that there is a 12-month waiting period for bariatric surgery coverage. This timeframe can pass quickly during preoperative preparation, so early consideration is advisable.

Self-Funding Patients:

Dr. George accepts self-funding patients. While self-funding may involve additional financial risk in the event of unexpected complications during a private hospital stay, Dr. George can continue your care in a public hospital setting if necessary.

Superannuation:

To assist with the out-of-pocket Professional Fees and, for self-funding patients, the Private Hospital Fees, we can help facilitate the early release of your superannuation.
